This past weekend was a huge one for Quincy Public Schools' Music Department as our student musicians participated in the annual Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) concert festival competitions. Several of our ensembles competed, earning well-deserved recognition:

  • The QNQ Symphonic Band and the QNQ Wind Ensemble both competed in the MICCA Concert Band Competition: the QNQ Symphonic Band earned a silver medal and the QNQ Wind Ensemble made history by becoming the first QNQ ensemble to receive a gold medal at a MICCA Concert Band Festival! Congratulations to both groups and their leader, system-wide music department chair Michael DeMarco.

  • The QHS Junior Choir, conducted by Ms. Joanna Compitiello, competed in the MICCA Choral Competition for the first time, delivering a stellar performance that earned them a bronze medal, just one point shy of securing a silver. The choir will have another opportunity to showcase their talent on April 27th at the Music In The Parks Festival in Westfield, MA.

Congratulations to our staff and students! Please don't miss the chance to support these talented students at their upcoming concerts this week: the Spring Choir Concert takes place on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at QHS and the Spring Band Concert is on Thursday at 6 p.m. at NQHS.
