Present were Mr. Anthony Andronico, Mr. Paul Bregoli (Policy Chair), Mr. Doug Gutro (Athletics & Wellness Chair), Mrs. Kathryn Hubley, and Mrs. Emily Lebo. Also attending were Superintendent Richard DeCristofaro, Deputy Superintendent Kevin Mulvey, Mr. Robert Cavallo, Mr. Kevin Mahoney, Mr. Jean-Jacques Niamkey, Ms. Maura Papile, Mr. Keith Segalla, Mr. Robert Shaw, Mr. Lawrence Taglieri; Quincy Citywide Parent Council President Scott Alessandro; and Ms. Laura Owens, Clerk.

Quincy High School Athletic Director Kevin Mahoney reviewed the Fall 2019 Athletics Season, noting that Girls Volleyball was undefeated in league play this past season, were the Fisher Division champions for the Patriot League, and competed in the MIAA tournament before being defeated in sectional semi-finals. 13 students were Patriot League All-Stars across all Fall Sports. North Quincy High School Athletic Director said there was lots of progress in team development across all Fall Sports. 5 NQHS students were Patriot League All-Stars.

Winter Athletics are underway, the first games are scheduled for Thursday, December 12. Winter Sports Information Nights have been held with students and parents meeting with coaches and booster clubs. Tryouts were last week, participation numbers are consistent with previous years with some increases for wrestling and track.

Middle School Athletics for fall had high participation for both Cross-Country (183 runners) and Tennis (145 players).

Mrs. Lebo complimented the Middle School Cross-Country championship event and Mr. Gutro complimented the Thanksgiving Football game.

Mr. Bregoli asked about overall records for Fall Athletics. Mr. Mahoney said QHS Football was 3-8 and both soccer teams were below .500 as they were rebuilding this year after graduating a large number of varsity players last year. Mr. Niamkey said Volleyball was just under .500 and Soccer showed progress with teams closer to .500 mark. NQHS Football was also 3-8. Golf teams at both high schools showed improvement with higher match scores.

Mr. Bregoli said that middle school programs like Volleyball and Track have been successful in generating interest in high school athletics, would like a similar middle school program for Basketball.

Mr. Bregoli asked about Marshfield joining the Patriot League. Mr. Niamkey said that at this morning’s MIAA meeting, the Patriot League principals voted to accept Marshfield as a Patriot League member. Marshfield will be in the other division and they are competitive in most sports.

Mr. Bregoli brought up joining the South Shore League, several NQHS teams are not competitive in the Patriot League. Mr. Niamkey said that the South Shore League is not stable, teams are trying to leave and several are functioning as independent schools in terms of scheduling.

Mrs. Lebo asked about participation levels and whether high school students were cut due to high interest. Both schools cut players for Volleyball but Golf expanded to include an instructional program for younger players due to increasing interest. For Winter Athletics, Basketball is a cut sport.

The next item on the agenda was a revision of School Committee Policy 5.6 Food Service Management. Mr. Andronico reviewed that the new Policy incorporates the Massachusetts Association of School Committees recommendations and codifies the current policy that students are not penalized for outstanding meal charges.
