Organizational Meeting of the Quincy School Committee
Organizational Meeting
An Organizational Meeting of the Quincy School Committee was held on Organizational
January 6, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. at Central Middle School. The following members were Meeting
present: Mr. Paul Bregoli, Mr. Noel DiBona, Mrs. Kathryn Hubley, Ms. Barbara Isola,
Mrs. Anne Mahoney, Mr. David McCarthy, and Mayor Thomas P. Koch, Chairman.
Also present were Dr. Richard DeCristofaro, Secretary and Ms. Laura Owens, Clerk.

New Members Sworn In
The Chairman proceeded to swear in Mr. Noel DiBona, Ms. Barbara Isola, and
Mrs. Anne Mahoney.

Vice Chairman Elected
The Chairman asked for nominations for the Office of Vice Chairman of the
School Committee for 2014-2015. Ms. Isola nominated Mrs. Kathryn Hubley
for the Office of Vice Chairman. Mr. Bregoli seconded the motion.
Mr. McCarthy made a motion to close the nominations for the Office of Vice
Chairman and Mr. DiBona seconded the motion. On a voice vote, the ayes have it.
On a roll call vote, Mrs. Hubley was unanimously elected School Committee Vice
Chair by a vote of 7-0.

Mrs. Hubley’s Address
Mrs. Hubley began by thanking her colleagues for the honor of their vote as
Vice-Chair. She spoke of how the School Committee works together as a team,
collaborating to ensure that Quincy Public Schools delivers the highest quality
education possible. She spoke of recent initiatives including the Common Core
State Standards and the school security upgrades, the support for the students by all
city officials, whether elected or appointed. Looking forward, a balanced approach
to improvement while maintaining standards will be the goal. Mrs. Hubley concluded
her remarks by speaking of her years of volunteer experience and how thankful
she is for the opportunity to serve on the School Committee in this role.

Adjournment
On a motion by Mrs. Mahoney, seconded by Mr. McCarthy, the Organizational
Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. The ayes have it.
