Atlantic's Ms. Thao Nguyen-Ippolito Receives MATSOL's Anne Dow Award
Quincy Public Schools is proud to announce that Ms. Thao Nguyen-Ippolito, an English Language (EL) teacher at Atlantic Middle School, has been named the recipient of the prestigious MATSOL (Massachusetts Association of Teachers of Speakers of Other Languages) Anne Dow Award for Excellence and Creativity this year. The award recognizes exceptional educators who demonstrate excellence and creativity in teaching English learners.
Nominated by her colleague Ms. Elizabeth Emmons, Ms. Nguyen-Ippolito has dedicated nearly three decades to serving English learners at Atlantic Middle School. As an immigrant herself, Ms. Nguyen-Ippolito’s personal journey and teaching philosophy resonate deeply with her students, as she focuses on nurturing their identities as immigrants and emerging bilinguals in the United States.
From Ms. Emmons’ nomination letter, “Her outstanding dedication to immigrant education and her students' success make her a treasure to the city of Quincy and a truly deserving candidate for The Anne Dow Award.”
In addition to her work at QPS, Ms. Nguyen-Ippolito also trains Quincy College educators to improve their teaching practices for the English Learner students in their classrooms and serves on the Massachusetts DESE’s MCAS Bias and Sensitivity Committee, demonstrating her dedication to supporting and advocating for English learners.
Ms. Nguyen-Ippolito’s achievements inspire us all to continue our work creating inclusive and empowering learning environments for students from all backgrounds.
Please join us in congratulating Ms. Nguyen-Ippolito on this well-deserved recognition and thanking her for her invaluable contributions to QPS and the Quincy community!
