QPS Hosts Inaugural Professional Day of Learning on Nov. 7
Quincy Public Schools marked a significant milestone on November 7, 2023, hosting the district’s first-ever Professional Day of Learning. The event brought educators from across the district to Quincy High School for a full day of workshops and training, offering a unique opportunity for professional growth, collaboration, and reflection.
Keynote Speaker Ken Williams, author of Ruthless Equity: Disrupt the Status Quo and Ensure Learning, kicked off the event, setting the tone for the day with an energetic, interactive, and empowering presentation on ensuring equity in the classroom.
The event offered 87 workshops and training sessions from which the ~950 educators in attendance could choose. Covering a wide variety of subjects, from innovative teaching methods to mental health support for students, the workshops allowed each of our educators to tailor their learning experience to meet their individual professional development goals.
The day closed with keynote addresses by several distinguished education experts, including Dr. Hayley Watson, the creator of the Open Parachute school mental health program; Dr. Lisa Sanetti of UConn’s Neag School of Education, who spoke about improving educator well-being; Dr. Brad Johnson, who shared his insights on celebrating successes and inspiring educators; and Dr. Aaron L. Polansky, who encouraged positive school and workplace culture with our CVTE and Business Technology staff.
We thank all the many staff, volunteers, presenters, and educators who came together for this amazing day of collaboration and professional development. The success of this event would not have been possible without the support of the Quincy Education Association, who provided lunch, and the generous contributions of our sponsors, including Baystate Financial, the Hale Family YMCA, Equitable, and Premier Promotions.
